About

Women led and always keto-friendly, Hungry Squirrel’s commitment to better living began with a mother’s love. Businesswoman Sandra DiCicco had dedicated her free time to developing recipes that would allow her son to enjoy the same foods as everyone else, without affecting his health. Sandra’s son lives with type-1 diabetes, a unique health concern which comes with certain dietary restrictions. The idea that her son might feel ostracized for his diabetes frustrated Sandra, but the possibility of him becoming sick from unhealthy ingredients was an even greater concern.

With the help of food scientist Romanna Clark, Sandra began experimenting vigorously with different flavor combinations that would allow her to recreate the tastes of celebrated sauces like ketchup and teriyaki, using only healthy, all-natural ingredients. The resulting recipes went above and beyond everything they had hoped for. Sandra had given her son access to a line of gourmet sauces that would allow him to enjoy everyone’s favorite flavors, without jeopardizing his health. But why stop there? Sandra and Ro made the decision to champion equity full-time, by making their new recipes commercially available to the public.

Ro and Sandra’s new company, Hungry Squirrel, would bridge the gap between taste and nutrition with a line of specialty sauces, fit for almost any diet. The result blended family-inspired recipes with the latest advancements in food science.

In 2020, Amy Baklund joined the Hungry Squirrel team as the Vice President of Marketing and Sales. Her experience working with major retailers, like Kraft and Albertsons, made her the ideal candidate for overseeing Hungry Squirrel’s rapid expansion.

All Hungry Squirrel products are prepared and packaged at an SQF2 certified facility. Our partners in production are established leaders in the food manufacturing industry who have been in the game for over seventy years!

The Grand Escondido Announces New Partnership

The Grand Escondido is partnering with Grand Restaurant Group Catering, to supply their venue with best-in-class dining and service.

The colossal efforts undertaken to restore Escondido’s old Ritz Theatre is a story for the ages. From the dilapidated remains of a once vibrant community center, Escondido’s citizens resurrected a cultural landmark, which will once again serve as the hallmark of civic life.

The redesigned Grand Escondido featured beautiful spaces for the community to enjoy art and entertainment, yet it was still missing one critical ingredient; great food. That’s where GRG stepped in. The exciting new partnership between these two local powerhouses will ensure that guests’ needs are met, while contributing toward community efforts to beautify downtown Escondido.

GRG Catering will serve as a third-party food and beverage vendor for the Grand’s exciting, new event space. In addition to managing the theatre’s concessions, GRG Catering will be opening a brand-new rooftop lounge, featuring specialty cocktails, local beers, and the culinary stylings of Master Chef Amy DiBiase.

DiBiase draws on over a decade of experience managing acclaimed local restaurants. The ambitious, young chef previously served as the culinary lead for downtown’s Intercontinental Hotel, and the award winning Tidal at Paradise Resort & Spa. DiBiase is esteemed for her boldly modern take on classically revered French and Italian dishes.

About The Grand Escondido

Located on the corner of Juniper and Grand Avenue, the Grand is a multi-use arts and entertainment complex, which caters both public and private events. This beautifully renovated and redesigned theatre offers versatile accommodations for every occasion, including wedding receptions, private parties, corporate events, seminars, movie showings, and theatrical presentations.

The development and reestablishment of this community landmark didn’t happen overnight. The Grand Project, spearheaded by Pastor Tim Spivey, is responsible for revitalizing the long-abandoned Ritz Theater, which once served as a cherished cornerstone of community life, before falling into a state of decay and disrepair.

“We view The Grand project, including the renovation of the Ritz Theater to its former glory in both use and design, as a radical act of service to our city. We are willing to take on the sizable cost of doing so ... our vision is to produce a project that the citizens of this community are going to look at five years from now and say that was the best thing to ever happen to Grand Avenue,” noted Spivey.

The project’s estimated cost was a whopping $7 million, and is a testament to the generosity of Escondido’s leading citizens. A single glance at the theatre’s stunning exterior is enough to see that their efforts paid off big time. The overall design draws inspiration from 1930’s architecture and the original Ritz theatre. The once dusty old theatre has been transformed into a vibrant mecca for art, dining, and entertainment.

It only makes sense that such an ambitious project would choose to partner with North County’s premiere restaurant group. The Grand Restaurant Group Catering offers full-service catering, featuring the most celebrated dishes crafted by their master chefs. This dynamic partnership offers community members a delightfully unique culinary experience at a one-of-a-kind venue, whose bold design and historic significance draws interested glances from across the county.
